The 10 Companies that Control Your Consumption

We’re all aware that there are a few multinational companies out there that control a lot of the world’s brands, the likes of Kraft, Pepsico, Unilever and Nestle, but I bet you didn’t realize just how many products these companies have a share in. Not only does Nestle own Crunch, Kit Kat and Smarties, it also owns Dog Chow, Friskies and L’Oreal (which in turn controls Kiehl’s, Garnier, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent and Diesel!). Crazy.

In fact most of the brands you can think of are controlled by just 10 multinationals, according to the following infographic from French blog Convergence Alimentaire. It’s quite shocking just how many products are owned by Kraft, Coca-Cola, General Mills, Kellog’s, Mars, Unilever, Pepsico, Johnson & Johnson, P&G and Nestle… some you never have imagined.

I think it’s safe to say that these companies pretty much control every household consumer brand in the world. And we’re at their mercy… unless we all return to good ole’ home cooking using freshly grown products and local independently produced products.. which would be nothing but a good thing.

Unfortunately, world domination by these multinational companies doesn’t stop at consumer products, 90 percent of the media is now controlled by just six companies (down from 50 in 1983 – see infographic here: and 37 banks merged to become JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and CitiGroup in a little over two decades. I’m going to make a pledge to avoid as many of these brands / companies as possible from now on. After all you are what you eat, what you put in your hair and what you read… guess the banking thing is more difficult unless we go back to stashing money away under our mattresses.
