Betting on Call of Duty in eSports

Shortly before the definitive emergence of online games and large multiplayer games with users from all over the world connected at the same time, a war action saga began to pave this way thanks to the recent possibilities of Internet connection of the PlayStation 2 and the PC. We are referring to Call of Duty, a title that has been played by more than 100 million people since its launch and that a few years ago surpassed the mark of 250 million copies sold across all its instalments.

What are the main Call of Duty competitions?

Professional Call of Duty matches are some of the most exciting to be seen in the eSports landscape. North America is the region with the largest number of elite tournaments, many of which last for months and offer numerous betting opportunities.

Call of Duty League

It is possibly the most important regular Call of Duty competition in the world. The Call of Duty League is a league championship in which the main American teams participate and some invited teams from other continents. Following a very similar scheme to that of the NBA and other popular sports, the teams incorporate the name of a city or state and have authentic legions of followers. It is usually held in the first months of the year. In the 2020 edition there are 6 million dollars in prizes.

Call of Duty Challengers

These are a series of tournaments held on a continental basis (North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific) in which teams that are not part of the Call of Duty League participate but aspire to be invited to such an exclusive league. In any case, the tournaments usually have very generous prizes and are held with astonishing regularity, to the point that more than 30 events of this type were held in the first six months of 2020 alone.

Call of Duty Challengers Championship

Technically speaking, this is the main event of the Call of Duty Challengers, with the eight best teams of the season competing in the Playoffs. There is a prize pool of half a million euros up for grabs, but the main incentive for qualified clubs is the chance to join the Call of Duty world elite.

Call of Duty World League Championship

It is the largest international Call of Duty championship, bringing together 32 teams from around the world. It has a large regular phase in which the 16 best clubs qualify for the Playoffs. In the 2019 edition, 2 million euros were awarded in prizes.

What is Call of Duty?

Call of Duty is a first-person shooter video game initially developed by Infinity Ward, although other major studios such as Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch have also participated in the latest instalments. All the titles recreate war, historical or fantasy scenarios (the first editions of the saga were set in World War II), immersing players in highly dynamic games in which they have a host of resources at their disposal to take the enemy’s positions. Strategy plays an essential role, although the shooters ‘ skill in handling weapons can end up deciding the games.

Call of Duty is one of the longest-running sagas in the history of action video games. Its launch dates back to 2003 and since then we have seen more than ten instalments of the saga, most of which have been compatible with the main consoles of the moment (Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360…). The most recent title, released in early 2020, is Call of Duty: Warzone , available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
